Kathak Dance Classes 2019-2020
Kathak is one of the oldest classical dance forms originating from India. It is widely known as the ‘art of storytelling’. A versatile form that encapsulates rhythmical footwork, dynamic pirouettes, graceful movements and emotive expression. Suited to all levels and age groups, classes take place weekly in and around Swindon on both a 1-1 and group basis. NEW from Jan 2020, adult Kathak group in a central location.
Dr Shivani Sharma is a psychologist by background and has pursued a passion for dance alongside her career. She began her formal training in Kathak under Guru Shila Mehta (Mumbai India) in 2014, having previously learnt and completed dance examinations with the UK based Dancing Nikita Company. She offers classes in Kathak on both a 1-1 and group basis for children and adults in and around Swindon. Regular training is complimented by annual opportunities to learn directly from Shila Mehta. For those interested, there is the option to sit ISTD dance examinations as well as regular opportunities to take part in performances (stage and community). Shivani is passionate about education and follows a student-centred approach to help individuals enjoy and get the most benefit out of engaging with art.
Shivani also supports a programme of workshops for settings such as schools, colleges and specialist groups such as for youth with Special Educational Needs (SENs).
